The series Heroes, Heroines was started as an homage to all those who keep us alive. It was also a way to retain an artistic memory of this period we are crossing.
Baker, nurse, refuse collector, doctor, nursing assistant, pharmacist, market gardener or horticulturist, they have all continued to work for us, on the front line, throughout these past months.
From Hyères, Paris, Marseilles, Montreal... these artists, friends of the villa Noailles, have attempted to conjure up the invisibility that these vital actors of our society are subject to daily, whilst at the same time reinvesting the portrait genre.
The project Heroes, Heroines also provoked new forms of encounter and tied new artistic bonds, beyond the social distancing and isolation.
The villa Noailles thus invited the podcast Fragîle Porquerolles, recorded on the island before and during the confinement, as well as the association Hyères en photo to take part in the project. By uniting these projects, the exhibition aims also to be an expression of local solidarity which hopes to reinvent, through art, a way to find ourselves again.
